About The Opportunity: We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join our team in Runcorn, Cheshire. The role of Principal Engineer is to lead on architecture strategy, technical delivery and own and continuously improve technical standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading design for high-volume, high-performance, high-availability applications and platforms.
  • Providing architectural guidance, direction and consultation for major projects. 
  • Building, maintaining and supporting software applications for high-volume, high-performance, high-availability applications and platforms.
  • Lead ongoing development of overall engineering standards, patterns and practices.
  • Ensuring that technical standards are being followed, by colleagues or 3rd party suppliers.
  • Delivery of projects and activities, escalation and management of delivery challenges at a large/multi-team or major project level. 
  • Supporting delivery teams with specific technical challenges.
  • Managing engineering capability in delivery teams.
  • Building and recruiting a team including maintaining a talent pipeline.
  • Encourage technical innovation in our teams. 
  • Contributing to development of governance frameworks and ensuring that agreed and appropriate levels of governance are applied.

Who we want:

  • Excellent understanding of (and working experience with) full infrastructure stack.
  • Strong programming skills in Java and likely multiple other languages. Able to apply concepts regardless of language.
  • Demonstrably highly experienced and capable with Object Oriented principles, practices and patterns, both in application and successfully training others.
